ARTEMIS:
RETURN OF THE
SPACE RACE?
It’s one of the most iconic moments in history: Neil Armstrong stepping onto the Moon in 1969, marking a “giant leap for mankind.” Many believed this would kickstart an era of interplanetary exploration, but it hasn’t quite materialised… yet.
Now, more than 50 years after a human last left Earth’s orbit, NASA’s Artemis program aims to put astronauts back on the Moon this decade.
If everything goes to plan, it will lead to the construction of a lunar base on the moon which will one day help us send humans to Mars.
So, what’s driving the new space race? And with billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos involved, should we be worried about conflicts of interest and new global rivalries?
