IS ECONOMIC
GROWTH
DESTROYING
THE PLANET?

For centuries, we’ve grown accustomed to the idea that economies are meant to grow and that this is always a good thing. But what if that’s no longer true?

Rising GDP has brought improved living standards, better jobs and progress for many of us. It’s also significantly contributed to pollution, extinctions and climate change.

There is a growing argument that we can’t afford to carry on as usual and a radical new approach is needed. Enter Degrowth.

Degrowth advocates believe unlimited growth is impossible on a planet with finite resources. Instead, they say, we should now be scaling back and focusing on wellbeing and sustainability.

How would this work in practice? And can turning centuries of economic thinking on its head really be our best hope for a better future?
